To support Syrian refugees by offering tutoring in English, math, and financial literacy in order to improve their ability both in and outside of the classroom, along with field trips to help educate them on Canadian culture.

Get to Know Us
Our Story
Based in Toronto, Canada, Students for Syria started as a modest project meant to provide elementary tutoring services for Syrian refugees by Arabic speakers. We hosted our first session in December 2016, with around 12 people in attendance. 9 months later, we are tutoring nearly 25 kids per week in English and Math, and have hosted a fundraiser that attracted a crowd of over 120 people.
Tutoring Services
English
We aim to improve our kids' writing and reading skills through tailored workshops for each age group. Through our reading circles and fun word games, we are proud to say that our kids have shown an increased level of competence in both casual and academic English!
Math
We want to make math fun again for the kids! By integrating games and competitions into our daily sessions, our kids are more engaged than ever and have seen significant improvements in their grades and in their general mathematical capabilities.
Financial Literacy
In addition to our academic services, we wish to provide our kids with life skills they need to start a fulfilling life here in Canada. Financial literacy and the understanding the value of money and work is something we wish to teach our kids both by example and through formal methods.

Our Goals
Sustain, Expand, Inspire.
Sustain
Sustainability is a key aspect in any organization and we wish to see ours grow and thrive in the coming years. Finding passionate individuals who are driven and find a sense of purpose in assisting and mentoring the growing refugee community is a priority.

Expand
Growing and expanding to other areas in Ontario is a priority to us. We define our success as how we can make a lasting impact on the people affected by this crisis, and reaching more refugees is a priority. We want to build a community around Students For Syria which reaches across Canada and allows students and refugees to connect, furthering our commitment to community development.

Inspire
We wish to see our students build and grow themselves into independent and productive individuals who will also one day contribute to the community. Whether this be through formal education, business endeavours, or community involvement, we wish to push our students to want more and we will attempt to assist in any way we can, whether through our formal services, funding, or networking.
